Potable Water Tanks

SolarBee Potable Water Solutions

First, add SolarBee active mixing to your potable tank.

Next, boost disinfectant as required for a consistent residual.

Then, remove THMs as required for EPA Stage 2 DBPR compliance.

SolarBee Potable Tank Mixing: Active mixing in water storage tanks ensures uniform distribution of disinfectants and prevents stagnant water areas.  Well-mixed tanks consume fewer disinfectant chemicals, produce fewer disinfection by-products, and eliminate the need for energy-intensive and costly deep-cycling or flushing.

SolarBee mixers' energy-efficient, high-volume flow capabilities can be used to increase the baffle factor and actual T10 detention time in your treatment plant. (T10 is the time at which 90 percent of the water remains in the CT basin.) Increased detention time allows a lower chlorine level to be used to meet the required CT, or chlorine concentration multiplied by time. A lower chlorine level will lower your total trihalomethane (TTHM) potential.

Solar-powered Models

Available in solar-powered or energy-efficient grid-connected models: SolarBee solar-powered and GridBee grid-connected potable water mixers completely mix all shapes and sizes of tanks from corner to corner, including the boundary layers where bacteria can build up. Each potable mixer comes complete with chemical injection capability, and we offer a convenient disinfectant boosting system accessory should boosting be desired at the tank. Our collapsible units are designed to install in less than a day through a hatch as small as 18", and our GS-12 through a hatch as small as 12", without costly infrastructure changes and without taking the tank out of service.

Model GS-12

GridBee GS-12 submersible mixer: Thoroughly mix tanks of a wide size range with the high-volume GS-12 submersible mixer. Pre-packaged and economical to purchase and operate, the GS-12 mixer is customer installable through any 12-inch or larger tank hatch. Typically there is no need to enter or drain the tank for installation. The low-voltage GS-12 requires only 5 amps power from a 120 VAC single-phase line, converted to a safe, low voltage before entering the tank. Results show that the GS-12 is the only submersible mixer designed to effectively mix the bottom three feet of the tank volume (without disturbing the sediment) with the upper volume, providing a complete tank mix.

Benefits of SolarBee's Thorough Mixing:

  • Ensure uniform distribution of disinfectant
  • Provide uniform water age
  • Produce fewer disinfectant byproducts
  • Prevent stagnation, thermal stratification and short circuiting
  • Reduce nitrification with thorough boundary-layer mixing
  • Eliminate the need for energy-intensive deep tank cycling
  • Reduce high heterotrophic plate counts
  • Reduce excessive ice buildup in cold climates

Solar-powered Potable Mixer Features:

  • Minimal (if any) infrastructure changes required for installation
  • Easily removed or left in place (covered) for tank cleaning
  • Operates day and night on solar power
  • Maximum run time with brushless motor and digital control system
  • Self-adjusts for varying water levels
  • SCADA outputs for monitoring
  • Provides efficient system to boost or breakpoint chlorinate
  • 2-year machine warranty, 10-year motor warranty, 25-year machine life expectancy

Disinfectant Boost

Chemical Injection and Disinfectant Boosting: Sometimes intervention beyond just mixing is required to keep the water quality high, such as periodic boosting via an in-tank chemical injection system. Frequent boosting with small doses of disinfectant chemicals (chlorine or chloramine) is far less costly than having a major problem occur in a tank.

THM Removal System

THM Removal System: SolarBee has developed effective and economical THM removal solutions to ensure compliance with the EPA Stage 2 DBPR. We offer both spray nozzle and diffused aeration systems; our application engineering team will help you design the specific system sized for your needs. All systems can be installed with little or no infrastructure changes and can be rented first and converted to a purchase later.
